Boeing Starliner Crew Launch Delayed Again
Automatic Abort Halts Test
The first crewed launch of Boeing's Starliner spacecraft has been delayed yet again due to an automatic abort. During a crucial safety test on Monday, November 15th, 2021, the spacecraft's abort system was triggered prematurely.
The test, which was designed to simulate an emergency on the launch pad, was proceeding smoothly until the Crew Access Arm on the launch pad retracted and activated the launch abort system. The system then fired, separating the Starliner from the Atlas V rocket and sending it on a ballistic trajectory.
This is the latest in a series of setbacks for Boeing's Starliner program. The spacecraft has been plagued by technical issues and software glitches, which have resulted in multiple delays. NASA has said that it will not approve the Starliner for crewed missions until it has successfully completed all of its safety tests.
